Cardinal Terminology in the Karelish Language
This paper carries out a semantic and etymologic investigation of
Karelian names for cardinal directions. The most significant issues in the
cases of the above mentioned languages are that there are more than one
expression for one direction and one expression can be used for more
directions. So without tha speaker’s cognition and the environmental factors
it cannot be understandable.
By the inclusion of all the different names associable with each direction,
the variability of the naming methods applied is clearly demonstrable.
